Taupo: Breakfast at the Spoon & Paddle Café

Finding a new location for a hearty breakfast in Taupo is always an enjoyable challenge. A hard job, but if someone’s got to do it… my partner and I will do it! The Spoon & Paddle Café is located on the corner of Heuheu and Titiraupenga Streets in central Taupo, approximately 5 minutes walk from the famous Hole in One Golf lakefront attraction.

This was our second visit to the café, but first for breakfast. There is a range of seating options, including inside in two cosy and colourfully decorated rooms, and outside in the generous front yard (the café appears to have been a private residence at one stage).

The menu is comprehensive including Gluten and Dairy Free options. I went for my standard Scrambled Eggs & Bacon on Sourdough (NZ$15), while Karen went for the Cape Seed Toast, Smashed Avocado & Poached Egg (NZ$16.50). To top the meal off we both had a Flat White coffee.

The staff were incredibly friendly, our meals delicious, and the wait time was minimal. We were both very impressed and would recommend highly as a café destination at Lake Taupo. For the Flat Whites alone… we will be back.
